Swiss ride manufacturer Intamin has delivered three headline attractions for Six Flags Qiddiya City, the highly anticipated theme park that officially opened on December 31 as part of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030 development program.
The new rides – Falcons Flight, Spitfire, and Skywatch – form the technological and visual centrepiece of the park, combining record-breaking performance with advanced ride systems and bespoke design. Together, they underline both Intamin’s engineering leadership and Qiddiya City’s intent to position itself as a global destination for large-scale entertainment.
Falcons Flight: Redefining the Limits of Roller Coaster Engineering
The standout installation is Falcons Flight, an LSM launch coaster that sets three world records, becoming the tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster ever built.
With a track length of approximately 4,325 metres, a maximum height of 195 metres, and a top speed of 250 km/h, the attraction pushes the boundaries of what is currently achievable in coaster design. The ride experience lasts around three minutes and 35 seconds, incorporating extreme speed, dramatic elevation changes, and a signature cliff dive element.
The ride is powered by Intamin’s market-leading LSM drive system, designed to deliver extreme acceleration while maintaining smoothness and reliability. Special attention has been given to train aerodynamics and windshield design to ensure rider comfort and safety at unprecedented speeds.
Spitfire: Triple Launch Coaster Sets New Inversion Record
Complementing Falcons Flight is Spitfire, another Intamin LSM launch coaster that introduces the world’s tallest inversion on a roller coaster, reaching 73 metres above the park skyline.
Spitfire features a triple launch sequence propelling trains up to 127 km/h, supported by Intamin’s Fast Switch technology and a vertical spike element. While the physical track length measures 582 metres, the ride delivers an experienced track length of approximately 901 metres, maximising airtime, weightlessness, and dynamic pacing.
The attraction culminates in an inverted top hat, creating a highly visual and marketable moment that reinforces Spitfire’s role as a defining feature of the park’s skyline.
Skywatch: Observation Ride Adds Capacity and Iconic Presence
Balancing the park’s high-intensity thrills is Skywatch, a custom-designed Flying Island attraction. Rising 45 metres above ground level, Skywatch offers guests 360-degree panoramic views of Six Flags Qiddiya City and the surrounding Tuwaiq Mountains, with a capacity of 100 riders per cycle.
The ride’s tent-inspired design integrates seamlessly into the park’s themed environment while serving as a visual anchor both on the skyline and from within neighbouring ride areas. From an operational perspective, Skywatch provides high-capacity, family-friendly appeal and strong dwell-time value.
A Strategic Project within Saudi Vision 2030
Six Flags Qiddiya City is the inaugural asset of the wider Qiddiya entertainment city, a flagship project within Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy aimed at diversifying the national economy through tourism, sports, and entertainment.
The park has attracted significant attention from both enthusiasts and industry professionals, not only for its scale but also for its focus on immersive environments and record-setting attractions. Falcons Flight and Spitfire alone account for four world records, reinforcing the park’s ambition to set new global benchmarks.
Industry Collaboration and Delivery
Intamin has described the Qiddiya project as a landmark achievement, highlighting the close collaboration between the manufacturer and the Six Flags Qiddiya City teams throughout the development and delivery process.
With these three attractions now operational, Six Flags Qiddiya City enters the global market with one of the most ambitious ride line-ups ever launched on opening day, establishing a powerful new reference point for large-scale destination parks in the Middle East and beyond.
