BoldMove Unveils New Cactus Valley IP for Smash & Reload 2.0 Dark Ride

Brussels-based attraction developer BoldMove Nation has introduced a new IP, Cactus Valley, designed specifically for its compact Smash & Reload 2.0 interactive dark ride system.

The new IP marks an expansion of the company’s media portfolio, building on the previous success of its TooMush and Voodoo Festival concepts.

By utilising a classic Western theme, BoldMove aims to offer all international operators a globally recognised universe transformed into a highly interactive, comedic family experience.

Technical Evolution: The Smash & Reload 2.0 Framework

The Cactus Valley content is deployed on the newly updated Smash & Reload 2.0 platform, which the company markets as a "Little Big Dark Ride". Designed with a compact footprint, the attraction allows operators to repurpose existing estate buildings or integrate a high-throughput dark ride directly into central, land-constrained areas of a park.

The updated 2.0 configuration relies on the trackless Rogue Rides system. This vehicle technology introduces multi-directional movement, enabling the ride cars to move sideways, tilt, shake, and rotate throughout the experience.

The ride layout features four distinct media scenes. Passengers are positioned in front of 4-metre-wide projection screens displaying high-definition 3D animation sequences. Between each active gaming scene, the ride system incorporates an interactive "reload" phase. This mechanical pause provides visual, gamified feedback on passenger performance before transitioning to the next media zone. The experience concludes with a dynamic, team-oriented high-score leaderboard at the off-load station to encourage repeat ridership.

Narrative and Gameplay Mechanics

The storyline of Cactus Valley subverts traditional Western tropes. Rather than standard outlaws, the central antagonists are an assortment of animated, spiky cactus creatures that have stolen a cache of gold.

Passengers assume the roles of "desperados" tasked with recovering the treasure. The gameplay relies on an intuitive, high-energy shooting mechanic where the virtual targets react dynamically to player inputs. The comedy of the game is driven by the physical vulnerabilities of the cacti antagonists, who, despite their tough appearance, are comically terrified of inflatable elements and balloons.

Benoit Cornet, Chief Executive Officer of BoldMove Nation, commented on the creative direction:

"Filled with playful references to iconic Western films and major cinema hits, this theme delivers humour, action, and surprises at every turn, guaranteeing laughter from start to finish. From a hilarious show driven by autonomous virtual characters to an irresistible urge to take action, from the continuous enhancement of individual performance to a shared collective experience: everything is designed to make Smash & Reload 2.0 the essential 'Little Big Dark Ride' for every park."

Market Position and Scalability

For industry professionals and park planners, the Smash & Reload 2.0 system with the Cactus Valley IP is available in three distinct capacity scaling sizes. The system's trackless infrastructure offers flexibility in layout configuration, operating either as a standalone anchor attraction or as the indoor centrepiece of a wider, multi-million-pound themed land.

Founded in 2021 by dark ride industry veteran Benoit Cornet and public relations strategist Anja D’Hondt, BoldMove Nation specialises in experience design and turnkey engineering for regional amusement parks. Alongside the Smash & Reload dark ride series, the company’s B2B product line includes the trackless Rogue Rides vehicle technology, the Spinfinity Family Coaster model, and comprehensive media-based attraction refurbishment services.
