Amanda Rydenstam Appointed New Creative Director at Liseberg

Swedish theme park Liseberg has announced a significant leadership transition, with Amanda Rydenstam newly appointed as its Creative Director, following more than three decades under the creative guidance of David Schofield.

Liseberg has named Amanda Rydenstam as its new Creative Director. Succeeding David Schofield, who has spent more than 30 years shaping the Gothenburg park's distinct creative identity, Rydenstam will step into the role on 28 September to oversee the continued evolution of the resort and its future guest experiences.

Rydenstam brings extensive expertise in creative leadership, concept development, and experience design to the prominent position. Her professional background includes a proven track record in delivering large-scale projects and crafting compelling narratives within physical environments. She joins Liseberg from her previous role as Creative Director at Okidoki Architects. Academically, she holds a degree in architecture from Chalmers University of Technology, alongside specialised studies in spatial design and art history.

Andreas Andersen, CEO of Liseberg , said:

“We were looking for a person who could combine strategic thinking with creative excellence, while understanding the complex demands of a modern destination. In Amanda, we have found a leader capable of carrying forward Liseberg's strong artistic and architectural heritage while bringing fresh perspectives and new ideas.”

A Comprehensive Creative Remit

In her new capacity as Creative Director, Rydenstam will hold overall responsibility for developing and safeguarding Liseberg's overarching creative direction. Her expansive remit spans the entire destination ecosystem, covering the historic amusement park, accommodation offerings, water park, restaurants, popular seasonal concepts, and upcoming long-term development projects.

Amanda said:

“Liseberg has a remarkable creative legacy that I greatly admire. I'm excited to build on what has made Liseberg such a success, while exploring new ways to create experiences for future generations of guests.”

Ensuring Seamless Continuity

To guarantee a smooth transition and maintain absolute continuity in the destination's creative development, David Schofield will remain with the organisation during an interim transition period serving as Senior Advisor. Schofield's monumental three-decade tenure has established Liseberg as a global benchmark for themed design and guest experience artistry, making this handover a pivotal milestone for both the park and the wider attractions industry.

As the attractions sector continues to evolve, industry professionals will be watching closely as Rydenstam combines her architectural background and creative vision with Liseberg's rich heritage, steering one of Europe's most beloved destinations into its next exciting chapter.
