Disney Q3 FY26: CEO Josh D’Amaro Outlines Park Expansion, IP Integration, and AI Strategy

In Disney’s Q3 FY26 earnings commentary, Chief Executive Officer Josh D’Amaro highlighted a strong quarter for Disney Experiences, underpinned by a 4 per cent year-on-year increase in global park attendance and significant long-term investments across the company’s theme parks, cruise fleet, and technological infrastructure.

Addressing investors and industry analysts, D’Amaro emphasised that Disney’s strategic execution remains focused on three primary pillars: investing in world-class creative intellectual property (IP), leveraging cutting-edge technology to drive returns, and deepening direct engagement with guests.

Guest Growth and Major Development Pipeline

The 4 per cent growth in global attendance was largely propelled by robust performance at Walt Disney World in Orlando and expanded capacity across Disney Cruise Line. To sustain this momentum, Disney is pressing ahead with major capital investments across its global portfolio.

Highlighting upcoming developments, D’Amaro pointed to key additions currently in the pipeline, including:

  • Villains Land at Magic Kingdom in Orlando
  • Avengers Campus Expansion at Disney California Adventure in Anaheim
  • International and Cruise Expansion, including previously announced fleet additions to Disney Cruise Line

D’Amaro noted that major attractions are planned or underway for every Disney resort destination worldwide as part of the segment’s multi-billion-dollar expansion roadmap.

The Disney Flywheel: From Screen to Theme Park

A central theme of the presentation was the strength of Disney's cross-segment ecosystem, often referred to as the Disney flywheel. D’Amaro cited the Toy Story franchise as a prime example of how screen content directly feeds physical theme park attendance and revenue. Having generated over $4 billion at the global box office, the franchise continues to drive guest visits through dedicated themed lands, attractions, and resort hotels around the globe.

"Now, that’s the Disney flywheel in action," D’Amaro explained during the call. "One powerful and enduring story, told across theatres, streaming, retail, and physical experiences. That integration creates a structure no one else has been able to replicate."

Similarly, D’Amaro spotlighted how cinematic releases such as The Mandalorian & Grogu actively drive engagement within the parks. Recent updates to the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World demonstrated how franchise investments deliver tangible benefits across both entertainment and destination divisions simultaneously.

Leveraging AI for Operational Efficiency and Next-Gen Guest Experiences

Technology formed a substantial portion of D’Amaro’s address, particularly regarding how artificial intelligence is being integrated into pre-production, post-production, and park operations.

Emphasising that AI is designed to augment rather than replace human talent, D’Amaro stated that Disney’s approach remains firmly human-centred and creator-led.

"AI lets us work faster and smarter, particularly in areas of pre- and post-production," D’Amaro noted. "Our teams can personalise content and experiences for fans around the world at scale. And we are doing all of this while keeping human creativity at the centre. AI amplifies what our storytellers can do; it doesn’t replace them."

From a financial perspective, D’Amaro stressed that operational efficiencies gained through technology directly support future park enhancements. By streamlining back-end processes and optimising resource allocation, Disney aims to serve larger guest volumes across its physical and digital platforms cost-effectively.

"That frees up capital to reinvest aggressively in what drives long-term value: new content and next-generation guest experiences, as well as technology infrastructure that keeps Disney at the forefront of entertainment," he concluded.
